What if one partner won't budge on money?

That's incompatibility or control. If someone refuses to discuss, listen, or compromise on finances, they're viewing money as power. This requires couples therapy to address the underlying dynamic (fear, control, trauma). If they refuse therapy, you're dealing with someone unwilling to build partnership.

Should we get a financial advisor to mediate?

Yes, often helpful. A neutral third party removes emotion. They can help you articulate your actual values (what drives the disagreement) vs. surface positions (want savings vs. want spending). Financial therapy combines financial planning with emotional work—this treats money conflicts at the source.
