Ambivert

A person who falls near the middle of the introversion-extraversion spectrum, displaying both introverted and extroverted behaviors depending on context. Most people (60-70%) are ambiverts.

Ambiversion is the middle ground between introversion and extraversion. If you score between 40-60 on a 100-point Extraversion scale, you're likely an ambivert. This means you enjoy both socializing and solitude, can adapt your social energy to different situations, and don't strongly identify as either an introvert or an extrovert.

Research by Adam Grant (2013) found that ambiverts actually outperform both introverts and extroverts in sales — generating 32% more revenue than extroverts. Their advantage comes from flexibility: they know when to be assertive and when to listen, when to push and when to pull back.

If you've always struggled with the "Are you an introvert or extrovert?" question, you're probably an ambivert. The Big Five doesn't force a binary choice — it gives you a percentage score that captures ambiversion naturally.
