Cloud Tasks is a fully managed asynchronous task queue. Enqueue work (HTTP requests), Cloud Tasks executes them on workers with automatic retries, backoff, rate limiting, and deduplication. Never block user requests again, enqueue the work, return immediately, process in the background. Example: User submits a form → app enqueues a "send confirmation email" task → returns 200 OK to user → Cloud Tasks sends email in the background.

▶What's the difference between Cloud Tasks and Pub/Sub?
Cloud Tasks: point-to-point (queue), one worker processes each task, guaranteed delivery, retries. Pub/Sub: pub-sub (many subscribers), broadcast, no guaranteed delivery. Use Tasks for transactional work (order processing), Pub/Sub for events (logging, analytics).
▶How do I prevent duplicate processing if a task is retried?
Design idempotent handlers. Include a task ID in the request. Handler checks: 'Have I processed this ID?' If yes, skip. Cloud Tasks includes task name (unique) in request headers (X-CloudTasks-TaskName).
▶Can I schedule tasks for later execution?
Yes. Create a task with a future schedule_time. Cloud Tasks won't execute until that time. Useful for delayed actions (send email in 1 hour, process after user confirms).
▶What's the max payload size?
100 KB per task. For larger payloads, store in Cloud Storage, pass URL in task payload. Handler fetches from Cloud Storage.
▶How do I handle tasks that fail multiple times?
Cloud Tasks retries with exponential backoff (default: 100 times over 7 days). After exhausting retries, task is dropped (unless you have a dead-letter queue setup). For critical tasks, log failures and alert.
▶Can multiple workers process tasks in parallel?
Yes. Set max_concurrent_dispatches = 100 (or your target parallelism). Cloud Tasks distributes tasks across workers. Each worker processes sequentially.
