What is a good data entry speed?

Back-office postings commonly set the bar at 8,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour, and describe 10,000 and above as fast. This test bands your adjusted figure into four tiers around those numbers, so a result tells you which side of a typical requirement you are on rather than leaving you to convert from words per minute.

Why keystrokes per hour instead of words per minute?

Words per minute is a prose measure — it assumes a five-character average word and continuous text. Data entry is short fields, numbers, codes and tabbing between them, where there is no such thing as an average word. Employers who hire for this work quote KPH for the same reason, so the score comes out in the unit the job advert is written in.

Does accuracy really matter that much?

It is the whole score. Raw speed is multiplied by the share of fields you got exactly right, so typing at double the pace with half the fields wrong produces the same number as typing at normal pace with everything correct. That is deliberate: in claims, order processing and BPO work, a wrong field costs more time downstream than a slow one costs upstream.

Can I correct a mistake while I type?

Yes. Backspace works and you can go back through the fields of the record you are on, because correcting yourself is part of the actual job. What you cannot do is paste — pasting is blocked on every field, and the source panel cannot be copied from, since a test you can paste your way through measures nothing.

What are the three rounds?

Customer records first — names, emails, phone numbers and cities, the kind of thing a CRM export produces. Then invoice lines, which mix a reference code, a date, a client and an amount. Then shipment lines, with tracking codes, carriers, weights and destinations. Each round runs for 60 seconds and is scored on its own before the next one starts.

Do I need to sign up?

No. The test runs and scores in the browser, and you get the full result — speed, accuracy, per-round figures and the error breakdown — without an account. Creating one only matters if you want the result kept alongside your other results later.

Can an employer send me this test?

מהו Data Entry Test?

This is a transcription test, not a quiz. A source document sits on the screen — a CRM export, an invoice batch, a shipment manifest — and you retype it field by field into a form while a 60-second clock runs. There are three rounds, and each one uses a different kind of record, because a name and a city behave nothing like a tracking code and a weight.

A field scores only when it matches the source exactly. Nothing is close enough: a transposed digit in an account number is a wrong account number, and a test that gave partial credit for it would tell an employer the opposite of what the job needs. Your speed is then multiplied by that accuracy, so the final figure is what you can actually produce, not what you can produce if nobody checks it.

The result is in keystrokes per hour, which is the unit back-office job ads use — they ask for a KPH figure rather than words per minute because the work is fields and records rather than prose. You also get the shape of your errors: whether you left fields blank, got the format wrong, swapped characters around, dropped them, added them, or typed something different.
