Koa Middleware이란

Koa is a lightweight web framework for Node.js, created by the Express team. It's minimal (provides only essentials), middleware-first, and built on async/await (not callbacks). A Koa app is a composition of middleware functions, each middleware has access to a context object (request + response) and can execute code before/after downstream middleware. Koa provides routing (via koa-router), body parsing, static file serving, and a clean API for building REST APIs and web servers.

Why use Koa instead of Express?

Express uses callbacks (callback hell), Koa uses async/await (cleaner). Express middleware = (req, res, next), Koa middleware = (ctx, next) with context object (cleaner API). Koa is lighter (20KB vs Express 50KB). Both are fast enough; Koa is more modern.

How does Koa middleware work?

Middleware is an async function: `async (ctx, next) => { ... }`. Execute code before request (downstream), call `await next()` to pass to next middleware, execute code after response (upstream, useful for timing, logging).

What is ctx (context)?

Koa context object contains request (headers, body, params) and response (status, body, headers). Much cleaner than Express (req, res separate). Middleware accesses ctx.request, ctx.response, sets ctx.status, ctx.body.

Can Koa handle large files?

Yes. Use streaming (ctx.body = stream). Don't load entire file in memory. Koa middleware can pipe streams.
