LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is the standard for centralized user/group management in enterprises. Active Directory (Microsoft) is the most common LDAP implementation. Mastery takes 4-6 weeks. Practitioners earn 20-30% premium because they enable SSO (Single Sign-On) across 100+ applications. The 5% who architect multi-domain LDAP forests are valuable in large enterprises.

LDAP Active Directory maali?

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is the standard protocol for centralized user and group management in enterprise environments. Stores users, groups, organizational structures in a hierarchical directory (tree structure). Active Directory (Microsoft) and OpenLDAP are common implementations. LDAP enables single sign-on (SSO), one login for all applications. Applications query LDAP to authenticate users (verify credentials), authorize (check group membership), and retrieve user information (email, phone, department).

What's the difference between LDAP and Active Directory?
LDAP is protocol (X.500 simplified). Active Directory is Microsoft product implementing LDAP. OpenLDAP is open-source LDAP. Use LDAP for protocol/concepts, AD for Windows environments.
How does LDAP authentication work?
Application connects to LDAP server, searches for user (by username). If found, attempts bind with user's password. If bind succeeds, user is authenticated. No password returned to application (server verifies password).
What are OUs and how do I organize them?
OU = Organizational Unit (container in LDAP tree). Example: OU=Users, OU=Groups, OU=Services. Organize by department, function, role. More specific OUs = more granular permissions.
Can I sync LDAP users to other systems?
Yes. Sync tools (Okta, Keycloak, custom script) periodically query LDAP, copy users to target system. One-way sync (LDAP=source of truth) or bidirectional.
What about security? Is LDAP secure?
LDAP alone is not encrypted. Use LDAPS (LDAP + TLS) or StartTLS for encrypted communication. Always authenticate (credentials to bind) before querying sensitive fields.
