Is WebAssembly the same as JavaScript?

No. WebAssembly is a binary format that runs at near-native speed. JavaScript is a text-based language that runs in a browser VM. Wasm and JS work together, use Wasm for CPU-bound tasks and JS for DOM manipulation.

Do I need to know Rust to use WebAssembly?

Can WebAssembly call JavaScript functions?

Yes, via wasm-bindgen. You can import JS functions into Wasm and export Wasm functions to JS. The JS-Wasm boundary has overhead (~1-10 microseconds per call), so batch calls or use memory buffers to minimize crossing.

Is WebAssembly secure?

Wasm modules run in a sandboxed environment with no access to the host OS. Security depends on the runtime (browser, Wasmtime, etc.). Always fetch Wasm from trusted sources; a malicious Wasm module inside a sandbox cannot compromise your system.
