I korthet

Master CloudKit container setup, record types, subscriptions, and conflict resolution to enable offline-first iOS apps with transparent iCloud sync across devices.

Vad är CloudKit Sync Apple

CloudKit is Apple's cloud database for iOS/macOS apps. It syncs data across user's devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) via iCloud without requiring a custom backend server. Apps define "record types" (like database tables), specify sync zones (private/public/shared), and CloudKit handles authentication, conflict resolution, and offline queuing. Key concepts:

❓ Vanliga frågor

How does CloudKit differ from other sync solutions (Firebase, Realm)?
CloudKit = Apple-native, free tier (up to 5MB/user), iCloud integration (users don't manage accounts). Firebase = cross-platform, more features, $. Realm = local-only, no sync. Pick CloudKit for iOS-first.
Does CloudKit work offline?
Yes. Local cache (Core Data) with CloudKit sync when online. Conflicts resolved via CKServerChangeToken. Design for offline-first; sync is bonus.
What's the learning curve?
2–3 weeks for basics (containers, records, subscriptions). 2–3 months for production (conflict handling, performance, edge cases).
Is it production-ready?
Yes. Thousands of apps shipped. Still, Apple iCloud services down occasionally (~99.9% uptime). Plan fallbacks.
Pricing?
Free tier: 5MB/user, 10MB/database. Pro: $9.99/mo, 200MB/user. Compare to Firebase (~$1/GB).
Can I use CloudKit outside iOS?
CloudKit JS SDK (limited). Best for iOS/macOS. Web requires wrapper.
