I korthet

Deno is a modern JavaScript/TypeScript runtime (successor to Node.js) emphasizing security, simplicity, and developer experience. No package.json, no node_modules, TypeScript out-of-the-box, and explicit permission granting. Use Deno for backend APIs (Oak, Hono), CLIs, and automation scripts. Teams adopt Deno for internal tooling and small services. Mastery takes 3-4 weeks. Premium pay: 5-10% because Deno is cutting-edge but smaller ecosystem than Node.js means rarity premium.

Vad är Deno Runtime App

Deno is a modern runtime for JavaScript and TypeScript that fixes many of Node.js's design decisions. It's fundamentally similar (V8 engine, async/await) but differs in key ways: no npm/node_modules (URLs for imports), TypeScript out-of-the-box (no separate transpiler), and explicit permissions (security by default). You use Deno to build backend APIs (with Oak or Hono), CLIs, automation scripts, and microservices. Code is simpler than Node, no build steps, no dependency hell, making rapid iteration fast.

❓ Vanliga frågor

Why Deno instead of Node.js?
No package.json/node_modules (faster, simpler), TypeScript native (no tsc compile step), explicit permissions (security), and modern APIs. Node is mature with bigger ecosystem. Deno is leaner, faster for small projects. Pick Deno for new projects, greenfield. Node for large monoliths or when specific npm packages are required.
How does Deno's permission model work?
You grant permissions explicitly: `deno run --allow-net app.ts` allows network access only. `--allow-read=/tmp` restricts file read to /tmp. Default is deny-all, opt-in. Safer than Node where any code can read any file or make any network call. Prevents supply-chain attacks (library dependency going rogue).
Can I use npm packages with Deno?
Yes, via npm: protocol in imports (e.g., `import express from 'npm:express'`). Works but slower/less optimized than Deno-native packages. For Deno: use Oak, Hono, Fresh. For npm: acceptable for small usage, but prefer Deno ecosystem.
What's the difference between Oak and Hono?
Oak is Express-like, traditional middleware. Hono is lighter, faster, works on edge runtimes (Cloudflare Workers, Deno Deploy). Both are good. Oak if you want familiar Express feel. Hono if you want speed and edge-ready.
Is Deno production-ready?
Yes, v1.0 in 2020. Used in production by companies (Slack uses Deno internally). Risk: smaller ecosystem than Node. Good for internal tools, small APIs, CLIs. Large-scale systems: consider Node if heavy npm dependency required.
