Take the Chinese zodiac test and explore how your animal, element, and polarity shape your personality, your relationships, and your path forward.
Take the testThe Chinese zodiac is a 12-year cycle, with each year governed by a different animal — from the Rat through to the Pig. The pattern is rooted in the lunar calendar that has guided Chinese culture, medicine, and philosophy for thousands of years.
Because the Chinese New Year falls in late January or early February — not on the 1st of January — the zodiac year does not align with the Western calendar year. This tool uses the Lichun (Feb 4) approximation as the boundary: if you were born before Feb 4, you belong to the previous year's animal. Born in late January or the first days of February? You sit right on the boundary — check the exact Chinese New Year date for your year to confirm.
Your element comes from the last digit of your zodiac year: 0–1 Metal, 2–3 Water, 4–5 Wood, 6–7 Fire, 8–9 Earth. Each element colours the animal with a distinct temperament — a Wood Dragon is more idealistic and expansive than a Metal Dragon.
Your yin/yang polarity follows from whether the zodiac year is even (Yang) or odd (Yin). Yang years lean toward outward action and expansion; Yin years toward inward reflection and receptivity.
The compatibility pairings come from the traditional San He (Three Harmony) triangles, which group animals by shared elemental energy: Rat/Dragon/Monkey, Ox/Snake/Rooster, Tiger/Horse/Dog, and Rabbit/Goat/Pig.
