How rarity is measured

Population estimates above come from the Myers-Briggs Foundation public data sheet, compiled from CPP and Center for Applications of Psychological Type survey research conducted primarily in the United States. The percentages add up to 100 across all 16 types.

INFJ is consistently the rarest, around 1.5% of the population, or roughly 1 in 67 people. ISFJ is the most common, around 13.8%, or close to 1 in 7. The eight Sensing types (S in the middle) collectively make up about 75% of people, the eight Intuitive types (N) make up the other 25%.

Important caveats. These are estimates from western survey samples, mostly self-selected, decades old in some cases. Different cultures show different distributions. Sampling biases tilt the numbers. The rarity of your type matters less than what you do with it, but it makes for an interesting frame.

JobCannon is building its own live distribution from real test-takers. Once we have a meaningful sample, this page will show JC-specific rarity alongside the population estimates.
