Figma Variables Tokens

Figma Variables is Figma's native design token system, launched in 2023. It lets you define reusable design decisions (colors, typography, spacing) as variables, then use them across all designs. When you change a token (e.g., primary color), all designs using that token update instantly. Variables support "modes", variants like light/dark, mobile/desktop, so one component can reference the same token and display different values depending on the active mode. This is transformative for design systems.
