Why use FreeRTOS instead of bare-metal programming?

Bare metal is simpler but doesn't scale. Once you have multiple tasks, managing scheduling, priorities, and synchronization manually is complex. FreeRTOS handles this. Trade-off: overhead (memory, CPU) vs. simplicity.

What's a real-time guarantee in FreeRTOS?

Deterministic scheduling: if a high-priority task becomes ready, the kernel switches to it in predictable time (typically <1μs on ARM Cortex-M4). Not hard real-time (microsecond precision) but deterministic (no random delays).

How do you prevent deadlocks?
