Should I use Jetpack Compose or XML layouts?

Compose is Google's future; XML is legacy. Compose is faster to develop (less boilerplate), easier to reason about (state drives UI), better tooling (live preview). XML still supported but Compose is recommended for new projects. If maintaining legacy app with XML, stick with it; new features use Compose.

How does Compose handle state?

State is managed in composables and ViewModels. Example: Button click updates state → recomposition triggers → UI re-renders. Compose is smart: only recomposes changed branches. State flows from parent to children (one-way data binding). Testing state changes is easier than XML + traditional Android.

Can I preview Compose UI without running app?
