About University of Oklahoma
The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university in Norman, Oklahoma, United States. Founded in 1890, it had existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory for 17 years before the two territories became the state of Oklahoma. In Fall 2024, the university had 34,523 students enrolled, most at its main campus in Norman. Employing nearly 4,000 faculty members, the university offers 174 baccalaureate programs, 199 master's programs, 101 doctoral programs, and 88 certificate programs. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity", with over $416 million in research expenditures across its three campuses in 2022. Its Norman campus has two prominent museums, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, specializing in French Impressionism and Native American artwork, and the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, specializing in the natural history of Oklahoma. The University of Oklahoma has won 45 team national championships and ranks 13th all-time in NCAA history. The university also has 215 Academic All-Americans, seventh all time. Oklahoma football has won 7 national championships, 50 conference titles, and 7 Heisman Trophy winners. OU softball has won 8 national championships, including four straight from 2021 to 2024. Men's and Woman's Gymnastics have won a combined 19 national championships. OU baseball has won two national championships, has 11 College World Series appearances, and the 20th-most wins in NCAA history at 2,808. The wrestling program has won seven national championships. Since 1932, athletes from the university have made 90 appearances and brought home 23 Olympic medals (13 Gold, 7 Silver, 3 Bronze).
