Career Pathway
A smaller group of occupations inside a single career cluster that use similar skills — the level between "this whole family of work" and "this one job".
If a cluster answers "what kind of work is this", a pathway answers "which route through it". Within Health and Human Services, therapeutic services, diagnostic services and health informatics are separate pathways: they sit in one cluster, share a foundation, and lead to different occupations with different training.
Pathways are what make a plan actionable. You cannot take a course in a cluster, but you can take the courses on a pathway, and the sequence normally runs from a school course through a certification or degree into an entry-level occupation with named steps after it.
This is the level most secondary course planning is organised at, which is why an Education and Career Action Plan asks a student to name a pathway rather than a single job title — the pathway survives changing your mind about the job.
