Job
Work done for pay at a particular employer. A job may or may not belong to the career you are trying to build — the pay is the defining feature, not the direction.
A job is the most concrete of the four terms and the shortest-lived. It is one post, at one employer, with one set of duties and one salary. Most people hold many jobs across a working life and only some of them line up into a career.
This is the distinction that makes early career exploration less frightening. A first job that has nothing to do with your interests is not a failed career decision — it is a job. Treating the two as the same thing is what makes people feel locked in by a choice they made at sixteen.
A useful test: if you can answer "who pays you and what are you contracted to do", you are describing a job. If you can only answer "what kind of work is this", you are describing an occupation.
