Resilience (Personality-based)

The ability to recover from difficulties and adapt to adversity. A function of low Neuroticism, high Conscientiousness, and high Agreeableness (support-seeking).

Resilience isn't about not feeling pain — it's about recovering quickly. The Big Five predicts resilience: low Neuroticism (less emotional reactivity), high Conscientiousness (you take action), and moderate Agreeableness (you reach out for help).

Research shows resilience is partly heritable (~40%) but mostly learned through experience, relationships, and beliefs. Resilient people: have growth mindset (challenges are learning opportunities), practice self-compassion (failure isn't identity-defining), and build support networks.

Careers suited to resilient people: high-stress environments (startup, emergency medicine, crisis response). Low-resilience people thrive in stable, predictable environments (research, administration).
