Robert Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, introduced in 1986, is one of the most cited models in relationship psychology. It proposes that love is composed of three components: Intimacy (emotional closeness and connection), Passion (romantic attraction and physical desire), and Commitment (the decision to maintain the relationship long-term).
Different combinations of these three components produce distinct relationship types: Consummate Love (all three present) is considered the ideal; Romantic Love (intimacy + passion, no commitment); Companionate Love (intimacy + commitment, no passion); Fatuous Love (passion + commitment, no intimacy); and others. Understanding your triangle reveals the current balance, and what your relationship needs.
JobCannon's 15-question assessment measures your levels of all three components, maps them to Sternberg's taxonomy, and provides insights into your relationship's strengths, vulnerabilities, and growth opportunities.
