Steel reinforcement and rebar tying is the critical trade that gives concrete its strength against tension and bending. Steel reinforcement and rebar tying is the skilled trade of positioning reinforcing steel bars and wire mesh into concrete structures at correct spacing, cover (distance from surface), and alignment, then securing them with tie wire so they remain in place during concrete placement. Rebar workers read reinforcing drawings, select and cut or bend rebar to the specified shape and length, place and secure the steel in forms, then coordinate with the concrete crew to ensure the steel does not shift during concrete placement. The work requires precision: incorrect placement reduces structural capacity or creates code violations. The steel is the "skeleton" of the structure; rebar workers ensure that skeleton is correct.
