Who was Hermann Rorschach?

Hermann Rorschach (1884–1922) was a Swiss psychiatrist who developed the inkblot method as a personality assessment. He published his book Psychodiagnostik in 1921, just one year before his sudden death at age 37 from peritonitis. His original test used 10 specific inkblot plates that he hand-painted, five black-and-white and five with color. The Rorschach test became one of the most widely used psychological assessments of the 20th century and is still used today by clinical psychologists, though its methodology has been updated multiple times (most recently with the R-PAS system in 2011).

Is this scientifically valid?

The original clinical Rorschach test has decades of validation research behind it, though it remains controversial in the scientific community. Studies show modest reliability for certain measures (like thought disorder detection) and weaker reliability for others (like predicting personality traits).
