Master Patient Index (MPI) is a healthcare IT system that maintains a single, authoritative patient identity record across a healthcare organization or network. When a patient visits multiple hospitals, clinics, or providers, MPI ensures they have one unified identity. This enables complete medical history, coordinated care, and prevents duplicate tests, medication conflicts, and medical errors.
