About SHS ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management)

ABM is the academic SHS strand built around accountancy, business administration, and management. Core specialised subjects include fundamentals of accountancy, business mathematics, business ethics, applied economics, and principles of marketing — preparing students for BS Accountancy, BS Business Administration, BS Management, and BS Economics programs. The strand also maps directly to TESDA Bookkeeping NC III for graduates who choose direct employment over college.

Frequently asked questions about SHS ABM

What college course is best after the ABM strand?

BS Accountancy is the most common direct fit because ABM covers basic financial accounting, business math, and applied economics. BS Business Administration with a major in marketing, management, or finance is the second most common. BS Economics is also accessible.

Can I become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) coming from ABM?

Yes — ABM is the recommended SHS path to BS Accountancy, which is the degree required to sit the CPA Licensure Examination administered by PRC. The CPA review and board exam happen after the four-year college degree, not after SHS.

What jobs are available right after SHS ABM without college?

Entry-level office work — clerk, encoder, junior bookkeeper, sales associate, BPO customer-service representative. ABM-strand subjects also map to TESDA Bookkeeping NC III, which expands employability.

Can ABM students shift to a STEM-aligned college program later?

Yes, but expect to take bridging math and science courses in first year, especially for engineering or health sciences. Quantitative business programs (BS Mathematics with finance emphasis, BS Actuarial Science) are an easier shift because ABM already covers business math and statistics.

Is ABM a good track for someone who wants to start a business?

Yes. ABM covers business plan creation, accounting fundamentals, marketing, and applied economics — the practical building blocks of running a small business. Many graduates go straight to family business or freelance entrepreneurship.
