EV engineering is the design and optimization of electric vehicle powertrains. It encompasses battery pack design (cells, modules, management systems), electric motors (induction, permanent magnet), power electronics (inverters, converters), thermal management (cooling, heating), and charging systems. The field is nascent but booming. Traditional carmakers (Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota) are investing $100B+ to transition to EV. Tesla, BYD, NIO, and other EV specialists are scaling rapidly. EV engineering is where automotive engineering is headed.
