The moon phase soulmate idea went viral on TikTok in 2024. The premise is simple: look up the lunar phase the moon was in on your birth date, look up your partner's, and put the two phases side by side. If they form a complete moon (one waxing, one waning, fitting like a puzzle), you are cosmic soulmates.
The traditional astrology behind this is older than TikTok. Lunar phases that sit opposite each other in the cycle, like New Moon and Full Moon, have always been seen as a polar pairing in symbolic systems. The new framing is the social-media remix: take the technical math, soften the language, and call it soulmate compatibility.
Our tool runs the actual astronomy. We measure the time between your birth and a reference new moon, divide by the lunar cycle of 29.53 days, and find where in the cycle your birth fell. Both you and your partner. Then we read the distance between your phases.
Important caveat: this is symbolic, not predictive. The framework can be fun, can spark a real conversation about emotional rhythm, can even feel meaningful. It is not a substitute for talking to your partner about what you both actually need.
