How is the WPM score calculated?

Words per minute is your typed characters divided by five, per minute. The final score then subtracts 2 WPM for every 1% error rate, so a fast run with many mistakes scores lower than a slightly slower, clean one.

What is a good typing speed?

The average office worker types around 40 WPM. Proficient typists reach 60–80 WPM. Data-entry and transcription roles typically ask for 50+ WPM with high accuracy.

Can I correct mistakes while typing?

No — backspace is disabled on purpose, the same way most employment typing tests work. It keeps the accuracy measurement honest and stops you editing your way to a better score.

Do employers use typing tests when hiring?

Yes. Customer support, data entry, transcription, and administrative roles often set a minimum words-per-minute requirement. Taking a timed test gives you that number before an employer asks for it.
