Describing personality as a compass with four directions is an old idea in popular psychology. The North/South/East/West wording traces to Diane Turner and Thelma Greco’s 1998 book The Personality Compass, and four-quadrant models of temperament run back much further — through Marston’s DISC work in the 1920s and Jung’s psychological types before that. This test uses only the general directional idea. Every situation, every option, every direction description and all twelve results here were written from scratch for JobCannon, and none of that earlier material is reproduced.

Because North sits opposite South and East opposite West, the second direction that shades you always comes from the crossing axis — so a North result is coloured East or West, never South.
