What Is the Big Five (OCEAN)?

The Big Five personality test, also known as the OCEAN or Five Factor Model, is the most validated personality framework in modern psychology. It converges on five broad dimensions that consistently emerge across languages, cultures, and age groups, and is the standard reference for evaluating other personality models — including MBTI, Enneagram, and DISC, which can all be partially mapped onto Big Five traits.

What does OCEAN stand for, and what does each trait mean?

OCEAN is an acronym for the five traits. Conscientiousness reflects organization, self-discipline, and goal-directed effort — it is the strongest single predictor of academic and job performance. Agreeableness measures cooperation, empathy, and prosocial orientation — it predicts team cohesion and conflict avoidance. How is Big Five different from MBTI?
