What does the Excel skills test cover?
Four areas: formulas and calculation, lookup and reference, data handling, and formatting and presentation. The questions are scenario-based — you are shown a realistic sheet problem and pick the approach that solves it, rather than reciting syntax from memory.
How is my level determined?
Every question is scored against a single correct answer, and the total places you in one of four tiers: beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert. You also get a per-area breakdown, so a strong overall score still shows you which of the four areas is dragging.
How long does it take?
About 6 minutes. There are 30 questions and no per-question timer, so you can read each scenario properly. Your result appears the moment you finish.
Do I need a specific version of Excel?
No. The scenarios are written around behaviour that is the same in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc, so the answer does not change with your version or operating system.
Can employers use this for hiring?
Yes. Advanced Excel is one of the most common requirements in office and analyst postings and one of the least defined, so a scored breakdown by area is more useful than a line on a CV. Employers can send this test to candidates from the JobCannon for business page.
