What is a Janma Nakshatra?
Your Janma Nakshatra (birth star) is the lunar mansion the Moon was passing through at the exact moment you were born. Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) divides the Moon's path across the sky into 27 Nakshatras of 13°20' each, and the one your Moon occupied at birth is treated as the seat of your mind — your instincts, habits, and default emotional temperament — carrying its own personality archetype, career pull, and love pattern.
What do I need to calculate my Nakshatra?
Your birth date, birth time, and birth place. The Moon moves roughly 13° per day — about one full Nakshatra — so an accurate time and location matter for a precise result: we convert your local birth moment to UTC using your city's time zone, then compute the Moon's real sidereal position for that instant.
What if I don't know my exact birth time?
You can still get a reading — we default to noon on your birth date. The Moon rarely changes Nakshatra within a single day, so most readings stay accurate even with an approximate time. The exception is if your Moon happened to shift Nakshatra sometime that day: without your exact time, we can't tell which side of that boundary you fall on, so the result carries a small chance of being your neighboring Nakshatra instead.
How is this different from my Western zodiac sign?
Your Western (tropical) sun sign and your Nakshatra come from two different zodiacs. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasons. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, anchored to the actual fixed stars, which has drifted about 24° from the tropical zodiac over centuries of precession. We compute your sidereal Moon position using the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the standard reference the Indian government and most Jyotish practitioners use — so your Nakshatra is calculated the traditional Vedic way, not derived from your Western sign.
What is a Nakshatra pada?
Each of the 27 Nakshatras spans 13°20' of the sky and is further divided into 4 padas (quarters) of 3°20' each — 108 padas in total across the zodiac. Your pada narrows down exactly where within your Nakshatra your Moon fell, and in traditional Jyotish it's also linked to a Navamsa sign, adding a finer layer of detail to the base archetype.
Is this a scientific personality assessment?
No. The Nakshatra system is a spiritual and cultural framework from Vedic astrology, roughly 3,000 years old and still central to Jyotisha practice today, but no peer-reviewed study has found a reproducible link between birth Nakshatra and personality.
