Spatial Reasoning Test
Which of five bands you land in, from Developing Spatial Skills up to Master of Space. Mental rotation, pattern completion, 3D visualization and spatial logic, reported one by one. Which sub-skill is weakest, and the work that leans on it, from engineering and architecture to surgery and design.

🔬 Research & Sources
Spatial ability is the cognitive strength that word-based tests miss almost entirely, and it is the one most closely tied to engineering, surgical and design work. The 25 items cover the four operations perceptual-reasoning subtests are built from — rotating a shape, completing a pattern, visualising a solid, and reasoning about position — the same operations behind WAIS Block Design and matrix items. Mental rotation is also the most trainable of the four, which is why it is scored on its own rather than folded into the total. This is an educational assessment, not a clinical or supervised test.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Spatial Reasoning test measure?
Spatial reasoning measures how well you visualise and manipulate shapes in your head — mental rotation, shape matching, visual pattern recognition. This is the cognitive domain that predicts performance in engineering, architecture, surgery, and most STEM fields better than most other single cognitive measures.
Why is spatial reasoning useful?
Spatial reasoning predicts performance across most STEM fields better than most other single cognitive measures. It is also the cognitive domain most under-measured by school grades — many people who underperformed academically score very high on spatial reasoning.
How long does the Spatial Reasoning test take?
About 5 minutes for 25 questions. Items include mental rotation, shape-fold puzzles, visual analogies, and pattern grids. There is no time limit.
Can I improve my spatial reasoning score?
Yes. Spatial reasoning is one of the most trainable cognitive domains. The biggest levers are: play 3D puzzle games (Tetris, Monument Valley), draw and rotate objects from memory, and practice mental-rotation puzzles daily. Most people see meaningful gains in 4-8 weeks.
Is the Spatial Reasoning test free?
Yes, free with instant score, strengths, and growth tips. Backed by validated psychological frameworks.
