Frequently Asked Questions
Is this quiz a diagnosis, or does it tell me I need therapy?
No. This is a free, original self-reflection tool, not a clinical diagnosis and not a screener for any specific condition. It cannot tell you whether you need therapy in a medical sense, only you and, if you choose, a therapist can make that call. What it can do is give you a plain-language snapshot across four areas, current distress, life impact, coping resources, and openness to therapy, that can be a useful starting point for thinking it through.
Do I need to be in crisis for this quiz, or for therapy, to be relevant to me?
Not at all. Most people who see a therapist are not in crisis. This quiz is built for the much more common situation: wondering whether a bit more support could help, even when things aren't falling apart. Every result, including the calmest one, is a valid, useful answer.
My result was on the lower end. Should I still consider therapy?
If you're curious, yes, plenty of people in a steady stretch still find real value in therapy, for growth, for a recurring pattern, or simply to have a space to think out loud. A lower result just means less urgency, not that therapy would have nothing to offer you.
My result was on the higher end. What should I actually do next?
Treat it as a signal worth acting on, not a verdict. A good next step is reaching out to a licensed therapist for an initial consultation, many offer one for free or at low cost. If cost is the barrier, sliding-scale networks and community clinics can bring the price down substantially, and if you're in the US and thinking about harming yourself, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call, text, or chat.
How is this different from JobCannon's clinical screeners, like the Anxiety or Depression Check-In?
Those check-ins are structured around specific clinical symptom domains and use a 'validated' evidence tier. This quiz is a lower-tier, original readiness/triage tool with no clinical instrument behind it, it does not assess symptoms of a named condition, and it deliberately uses a softer, more conversational register. Think of it as a starting point for reflection, not a symptom check.
Can my result change if I retake the quiz later?
Yes, and that's expected. This quiz reflects how things feel right now, not a fixed trait about you. Life circumstances shift, so retaking it after a stressful stretch, a big life change, or just a few months later is a reasonable way to check back in with yourself.
