Frequently Asked Questions
What are the four trauma responses?
The four trauma responses — often called the 4 Fs — are Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn. They describe the automatic ways a nervous system tries to stay safe under threat: confronting it (Fight), escaping or out-running it (Flight), going still and shutting down (Freeze), or appeasing and people-pleasing (Fawn). The term 'fawn' was popularised by therapist Pete Walker. This quiz estimates which response you lean on most.
How does the trauma response quiz work?
You answer questions about how you instinctively react when you feel stressed, threatened, or overwhelmed. The quiz reads which of the four patterns shows up most in your answers and explains it as an adaptive survival strategy — what it protected, the genuine strengths inside it, and a gentle growth edge.
Is this quiz a diagnosis or a substitute for therapy?
No. This is an educational self-reflection quiz, not a clinical assessment, diagnosis, or treatment. Trauma responses are normal, protective patterns that everyone has to some degree. If difficult feelings come up or these patterns are affecting your life, please reach out to a qualified mental-health professional — this quiz is a starting point for awareness, not a replacement for support.
Is the trauma response quiz free?
Yes, completely free with instant results including your dominant response, the strengths within it, your growth edge, and a shareable card — no signup or email required.
