How is my typing speed calculated?
Your raw WPM is calculated as (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed — the standard gross WPM formula. Your adjusted score then deducts 2 WPM for every 1% error rate, so a 60 WPM typist with 95% accuracy scores 50 WPM adjusted. This rewards clean typing, not just speed.
What counts as a typing error?
Any character that doesn't match the passage text at that position is flagged as an error — red underline appears immediately. Errors are included in your error-rate calculation whether or not you backspace to fix them, because correcting errors costs real time in a live support context.
How long is the test?
Three passages, 60 seconds each. You type as much of the passage as you can in one minute, then move to the next. Total time is under 5 minutes including the brief rest between passages.
What WPM do I need for customer service roles?
Most customer service positions require 35–50 WPM adjusted. Data entry roles typically ask for 45–60 WPM. Higher-volume contact-centre roles (BPO) may want 55–70 WPM. Very Fast (70+ WPM) puts you above the bar for virtually any typing-intensive role.
