Big Five (OCEAN)

Fantasy (Openness facet)

A facet of Big Five Openness measuring imagination, vivid inner life, and tendency to daydream. High scorers live richly in their imagination; low scorers prefer concrete reality.

Fantasy captures the inner-life facet of Openness. High scorers report vivid daydreams, rich mental imagery, easy absorption in fiction, and a tendency to live partly in imagined scenarios.

This facet predicts creative output (writing, design, fiction) and is one of the strongest correlates of "flow" experiences during imaginative work. Low scorers are not less intelligent — they are more practically grounded and find purely imaginative tasks less engaging.

Fantasy is partly independent of Aesthetics: someone can have a rich inner narrative life (Fantasy) without strong aesthetic sensitivity to music or visual art, or vice versa.
