What is the Digital Ethics & Citizenship Test?
The Digital Ethics & Citizenship test puts you in twenty-four situations that actually happen online — a free app that wants your whole camera roll, a video of a politician that no news site seems to be reporting, a group chat that has turned on one person. Ten of the twenty-four do not ask what you would do at all. They lay out the facts, name nothing, and ask what the real problem is, with four candidate problems to choose between. The other fourteen ask what you would do next. The split is deliberate: noticing that something is wrong and knowing what to do about it are different skills, and a test that only asks the second one has already handed you the answer to the first inside the question.

Your answers are scored in three areas. Data, Privacy & Misuse is about information that belongs to people — what an app collects, who else ends up holding it, how long it is kept, and what changes when the information is a classmate's rather than your own. Misinformation & AI Ethics is about claims you cannot check at a glance, images and video that can now be generated on demand, and the honesty questions that come with using an AI tool for schoolwork. Digital Citizenship & Social Media Safety is about the people on the other side of the screen: asking before you post someone, what to do when a group chat turns cruel, and when a situation stops being one you should handle by yourself.
You get an overall band, a separate score for each of the three areas, and a one-line explanation of every situation you read differently from the key. The bands are written against the content rather than against other people: this test has no norming sample and reports no percentile, so it never places you relative to anyone else. It also cannot tell you whether someone is safe online. A low score means specific situations were read wrong and names which ones — a starting point for a lesson or a conversation, not a verdict about a person.
