Investigative Type (RIASEC)
The RIASEC code for people oriented toward analytical, scientific, research-focused work. Investigative types solve problems through inquiry and intellectual analysis.
Investigative (I) is Holland's code for analytical, curious, idea-focused people. They enjoy research, theory, and understanding how things work. They prefer complexity and intellectual challenge over routine.
Investigative careers include: scientist, researcher, engineer, analyst, programmer, mathematician, doctor, psychologist, and strategist. Work environment: analytical, uncertain problems, intellectual autonomy, data-driven feedback.
Investigative types are motivated by understanding and discovery. They'll spend weeks analyzing before acting, which makes them excellent researchers but can slow decision-making. Combined with Realistic, they become engineers (theory + building). Combined with Enterprising, they become CEOs/strategists (ideas + business). Career satisfaction comes from solving novel problems and continuous learning.
