What is the Weton Jawa Primbon test?

Weton is the cornerstone of Primbon Jawa, the traditional Javanese system of day-based divination. It's built from two calendars running side by side: the familiar 7-day week (Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Kamis, Jumat, Sabtu, Minggu) and the Pasaran, an indigenous 5-day Javanese market week (pasaran jawa: Legi, Pahing, Pon, Wage, Kliwon). Because 7 and 5 share no common factor, every possible pairing, say Rabu Kliwon or Sabtu Pahing, only recurs once every 35 days. That 35-day cycle is your weton, and cek weton, checking your weton, is still a routine first step in Javanese life before naming a baby, setting a wedding date, or opening a business.

Each side of the pairing carries traditional weight. Every weekday and every pasaran day has a neptu, a numeric value: Senin=4, Selasa=3, Rabu=7, Kamis=8, Jumat=6, Sabtu=9, Minggu=5 for the week; Legi=5, Pahing=9, Pon=7, Wage=4, Kliwon=8 for the pasaran. The two add together into your weton's combined neptu, anywhere from 7 (Selasa Wage) up to 18 (Sabtu Pahing). Older sources also tie each pasaran day to a compass point in the Kiblat Papat Lima Pancer: Legi to the East, Pahing to the South, Pon to the West, Wage to the North, Kliwon to the Center.
