How Empathetic Are You? Free 10-Question Empathy Test

Empathy is the capacity to notice, feel, and respond to what other people are going through. Psychologists usually split it into two strands: emotional empathy, actually feeling a flicker of what someone else feels, and a more active, caring side, the impulse to inquire, show up, and do something about it. It sits at the heart of the Big Five trait 'Agreeableness' and shapes how close, trusted, and supported the people around you feel. The Empathy Test uses the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) Compassion scale, the empathy-focused aspect of Agreeableness from DeYoung, Quilty and Peterson's research, built entirely from public-domain items. Five items are worded toward empathy and five away from it and are reverse-scored, which balances out the tendency to simply agree with everything, so the result reflects how you genuinely relate to others rather than how you'd like to come across.
