The basics

What is the Color Personality Test?

A color personality test sorts how you tend to decide, connect and work into a small set of colors. It is a shorthand, not a science: each color names a cluster of preferences, and your result is the color you leaned toward most often.

Our model, the Four Hues, comes from four everyday pulls: the pull to steer, to share, to tend and to craft. Scarlet steers, Marigold shares, Jade tends and Cobalt crafts. Everyone has some of each, so you get a primary hue and a second hue.

The hues, labels and questions are original to JobCannon. The test is for self-reflection and fun; we have not validated it, and it should not be used to hire, assign teams or judge anyone.

  • A color personality test sorts how you tend to think, decide and relate to other people into a small number of colors, usually four. Each color is shorthand for a cluster of preferences, and your result is the color that matched most of your answers. Ours uses four original hues, Scarlet, Marigold, Jade and Cobalt, and also shows a second hue, because nobody is only one color.

  • No. It is a JC-original model written for self-reflection and fun, and we have not tested it against any research instrument. We make no claim that it predicts behavior, performance or compatibility. Use it as a prompt to think about how you like to work with people, and please do not use it for hiring, team assignment or any decision about another person.

  • Scarlet is the hue of steering: you decide fast and lead from the front. Marigold is the hue of sharing: you bring energy, people and ideas together. Jade is the hue of tending: you look after people and keep things steady. Cobalt is the hue of crafting: you want to understand something properly and do it well.

  • The DISC test looks at behavior style at work, the temperament test uses the classical four temperaments, and the aura color test is a spiritual idea about energy, not a personality model. This one asks about everyday life, not just work, and sorts your answers into four original hues. For workplace style take DISC; for the classical types take the temperament test; for the aura idea take the aura test.

  • Yes. Your primary hue shows how you answered today, and it can shift with your mood, your life stage and the situation you had in mind. Every hue gets a score, so you see the whole mix and not just one label. If your result surprises you, retake the test while picturing a different part of your life and compare.

  • No. It is JC-original, inspired by the long tradition of four-type personality models. The four hues, their labels and every question are our own, and the test is not affiliated with or derived from any commercial color-personality product. It is for self-reflection and fun, and it has not been validated.
