What is the Autism Screener?

The Autism Spectrum Screener evaluates autistic traits across five dimensions based on current autism research. Unlike simple yes/no quizzes, it produces a multi-dimensional profile showing where your traits are strongest — because autism is a spectrum, not a single score. The five dimensions are mapped from the RAADS-R (Ritvo et al., 2011) and the Autism-Spectrum Quotient (Baron-Cohen et al., 2001), two of the most widely validated autism screening instruments in clinical research.

Important: This is a self-screening tool for awareness and education only. Autism spectrum conditions must be diagnosed by a qualified clinician through comprehensive evaluation including clinical interview, developmental history, and standardized observation. This screener cannot diagnose — but it can help you understand your trait profile and decide whether to seek a professional assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a clinical autism diagnosis?

No. This is a self-screening tool inspired by validated clinical instruments (RAADS-R, AQ-50). Autism spectrum conditions require a full clinical evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist — including clinical interview, developmental history, and sometimes standardized observation (ADOS-2). This screener can highlight patterns worth investigating, but it cannot diagnose.

Can adults be autistic without knowing?

Absolutely. Many adults — especially women, people of colour, and those with high IQs — are diagnosed for the first time in their 30s, 40s, or later. Autistic adults often develop sophisticated masking strategies that hide their traits from others (and sometimes from themselves). Late diagnosis is increasingly common and can be genuinely life-changing.

What's the difference between this and the RAADS-R?

The RAADS-R is a 80-question clinical instrument. Our screener distills the core dimensions into 20 questions and adds career guidance and country-specific next steps — features no clinical tool provides. If you want the full RAADS-R, we recommend Embrace Autism or NeuroDirect for a comprehensive version.

I also think I might have ADHD. Should I take both tests?

Yes — over 40% of autistic adults also have ADHD (Leitner, 2014). The two conditions frequently co-occur and interact. Take both the Autism Spectrum Screener and the ADHD Screener to get a more complete picture. Overlap between the two is sometimes called "AuDHD."

How is this different from other online autism tests?

Most free autism tests give you a single number. Our screener gives you a 5-dimension profile (radar chart), career guidance based on your cognitive strengths, and specific next steps for getting assessed in your country (UK or US). Every dimension is grounded in peer-reviewed research and cited on your result page.
