Colorado ICAP mandate
Grades 9–12 must develop an ICAP per C.R.S. § 22-2-136, the nationally recognized reference model. Career assessments are required.
Colorado pioneered the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP), a statewide mandate since 2011 that is now the national reference model. Every student in grades 9–12 must have a written ICAP that articulates their postsecondary and workforce goals, the yearly benchmarks to reach those goals, and the intentional course sequence to get there.
Career assessment is not optional in Colorado—it is a required component of the ICAP. Students must complete interest surveys, and their ICAP must include relevant assessment scores and records of college applications. JobCannon's full RIASEC (60 questions, ~15 min) and Career Match (12 forced-choice, ~2 min) assessments directly satisfy this mandate and provide the evidence-based foundation for postsecondary and workforce goal-setting.
Checked against C.R.S. § 22-2-136; 1 CCR 301-81 (State Board of Education Rules), not against a category description.
Sequenced across the 7th-12th grade arc.
Real tools and workarounds we found in use for ICAP compliance — not a hypothetical shortlist.
This page is one of 38 verified career-plan mandate pages JobCannon tracks, each citing a primary statute or regulation — for the Colorado ICAP mandate that source is ICAP Basics - Colorado Dept of Education. Scale is $199/mo and covers 200 people per billing period — one person, however many assessments they take, and a class-code arrival counts the same as an emailed invite. Growth is $999/mo for 1,000. Above that, or where enrolment should not be metered at all, it is an Enterprise conversation rather than a larger self-serve plan. A district-sized enrolment runs out of the monthly tiers quickly — the Education Licence below prices your whole enrolment per student for the year, assessments uncapped, and adds the full career and skills corpus.

One rate per enrolled student for the academic year, sized for Colorado district or school-level ICAP rollouts. Assessments uncapped, career and skills corpus included — multiply your own enrolment by the band and you have the most this can cost before you talk to us.
$1.25 down to $0.80 per student, per year — assessments uncapped
That multiplication is a ceiling, not a bill. If our self-serve plans would cover the same number of students for less, you are quoted the lower figure — we do not sell an institution its own students back at a higher price than anyone can buy them for on the pricing page.
A large school, multi-school district or trust
A university, college or college group
A statewide or national programme
£350 per school, per year — a flat whole-school licence rather than a per-student rate, because that is the unit UK schools budget in. Same uncapped assessments and same corpus. Excludes VAT.
The ladder starts at 1,301 students. Below that a self-serve plan already covers your whole roll for less than a licence would, so that is what we will point you at — and UK schools have the flat whole-school licence above at any size. Bands are by enrolment, and the rate applies to your whole roll rather than to a seat count you have to predict. Invoiced annually against a purchase order; no per-assessment charge and nothing to top up mid-year. Assessing an institution's enrolled students is covered by the Education Licence, not by a hiring plan. What is in the corpus.
Tell us how many students you expect to assess in a term and what your review process asks for. If something on your requirements list is not in the product, we will say so in the reply rather than in the pilot.
Colorado requires interest surveys, but does not name a specific tool. JobCannon's RIASEC (interest-based) and Career Match (forced-choice interest assessment) are nationally validated instruments that directly fulfill this requirement. Both are completed in under 30 minutes and generate actionable data for ICAP goal-setting.
ICAP development must occur during grades 9–12. Many districts administer career assessments in 9th grade to inform the initial ICAP, or in 10th grade if students enter high school without prior assessment data. Annual benchmark reviews give students and counselors natural check-in points to re-assess or dive deeper into career interests.
Colorado's statutory ICAP mandate applies to grades 9–12 only. However, many districts choose to start career exploration in middle school to ensure students arrive at 9th grade ready to develop a meaningful ICAP. JobCannon's middle-grades battery (Multiple Intelligences, Career Match, Skills Audit) supports this local enrichment.
JobCannon provides a printable Career Guide PDF that includes assessment results, career insights, and skill summaries. This PDF can be printed or shared digitally and becomes part of the student's ICAP record, satisfying the requirement that 'relevant assessment scores' be included.
Colorado requires that yearly benchmarks and progress toward postsecondary goals be reviewed annually. Typically, school counselors or career advisors lead this update with the student. JobCannon's bulk-invite feature and printable PDF export make it easy to share updated results with counselors and students at each annual review cycle.
Colorado's ICAP mandate does not extend to middle school—it is a grades 9–12 requirement; any middle-school career planning or exploration is district-determined and optional.
