Queensland SET Plan mandate
Under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Chapter 10, Part 1, ss.231-232), every student must complete a SET Plan by the end of Year 10, mapping their intended senior secondary pathway in partnership with parents and teachers.
Queensland's Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan is Australia's strongest career-planning mandate: it is legislated (not merely policy-recommended) and applies to every student by the end of Year 10. The SET Plan documents the student's intended senior secondary learning option—whether academic (QCE), vocational training (VET), school-based apprenticeship, or workforce entry—developed in close partnership between the student, parents or guardians, teachers, and the school's senior education officer. This collaborative process ensures the plan reflects the family's aspirations, the student's demonstrated interests, and realistic pathway options.
Queensland runs the SET planning process through OneSchool, the state education department's integrated schools information system. OneSchool is the official delivery platform for SET, making SET planning a built-in part of the state system rather than an optional add-on. Principals and nominated officers are required to facilitate SET planning activities, including career education, for every Year 10 student. This systemic integration ensures no student is overlooked and creates a clear audit trail for compliance.

This page is one of 38 verified career-plan mandate pages JobCannon tracks, each citing a primary statute or regulation — for the Queensland SET Plan mandate that source is Senior education and training (SET) planning procedure. Scale is $199/mo and covers 200 people per billing period — one person, however many assessments they take, and a class-code arrival counts the same as an emailed invite. Growth is $999/mo for 1,000. Above that, or where enrolment should not be metered at all, it is an Enterprise conversation rather than a larger self-serve plan. A district-sized enrolment runs out of the monthly tiers quickly — the Education Licence below prices your whole enrolment per student for the year, assessments uncapped, and adds the full career and skills corpus.

One rate per enrolled student for the academic year, sized for Queensland district or school-level SET Plan rollouts. Assessments uncapped, career and skills corpus included — multiply your own enrolment by the band and you have the most this can cost before you talk to us.
$1.25 down to $0.80 per student, per year — assessments uncapped
That multiplication is a ceiling, not a bill. If our self-serve plans would cover the same number of students for less, you are quoted the lower figure — we do not sell an institution its own students back at a higher price than anyone can buy them for on the pricing page.
A large school, multi-school district or trust
A university, college or college group
A statewide or national programme
£350 per school, per year — a flat whole-school licence rather than a per-student rate, because that is the unit UK schools budget in. Same uncapped assessments and same corpus. Excludes VAT.
The ladder starts at 1,301 students. Below that a self-serve plan already covers your whole roll for less than a licence would, so that is what we will point you at — and UK schools have the flat whole-school licence above at any size. Bands are by enrolment, and the rate applies to your whole roll rather than to a seat count you have to predict. Invoiced annually against a purchase order; no per-assessment charge and nothing to top up mid-year. Assessing an institution's enrolled students is covered by the Education Licence, not by a hiring plan. What is in the corpus.
Tell us how many students you expect to assess in a term and what your review process asks for. If something on your requirements list is not in the product, we will say so in the reply rather than in the pilot.
Queensland treats career education as a core responsibility of public schooling. By legislating SET planning (not merely recommending it), the state ensures every school and every student receives equivalent career guidance, removes discretion about whether to plan, and creates auditable compliance obligations. This legal standing distinguishes Queensland's mandate as one of the strongest in Australia.
The SET Plan is specifically about mapping the student's senior secondary pathway (Year 11–12 choice of program). It answers the question: 'Which senior secondary option is the right fit for this student?' It's narrower than a multi-year career plan; it's focused on the next two years and the student's readiness for that choice.
The principal or a nominated officer must facilitate SET planning for every Year 10 student—it is not optional. The process involves the student, parents/guardians, teachers, and school staff. The plan is collaborative, but the process itself is mandatory for all students.
OneSchool is the statewide information system where SET planning documentation is recorded. Principals, teachers, and (typically) parents can access and update the SET plan within OneSchool. The system provides templates, tracks completion status, and generates compliance reports for schools and the Department of Education.
JobCannon can administer career interest and skills assessments during Year 10 to help students clarify their strengths and pathway preferences before finalizing their SET Plan. The assessment results (e.g., RIASEC profile, Multiple Intelligences) provide evidence to support the student's chosen senior secondary pathway and can be documented within the OneSchool system.
Queensland's SET Plan mandate does not require SET planning for Year 11 or Year 12 students or for years below Year 10; the legal requirement is specifically to complete a SET Plan by the end of Year 10 to guide senior secondary pathway selection.
