Utah career standards crosswalk
Strands and Standards: College and Career Awareness (Utah State Board of Education, Career and Technical Education) covers grades 7-8 in 4 groups and 22 criteria. 1 are evidenced directly by something the platform produces, 4 more are supported by a named result plus teacher-led classroom work, and we make no claim on the other 17. The two claimed groups are never added into one number.
Utah compels a middle-grades career plan by law. Utah Administrative Rule R277-462 (Comprehensive School Counseling Program), read with Utah Code 53E-2-304 and Rules R277-700 and R277-911, requires every LEA to build with each student a written Plan for College and Career Readiness covering grades 7-12, starting within the student's first two years in that band — so grades 7 and 8 are inside it. This is the same initiative as the standards document rather than a separate requirement: the College and Career Awareness standards build toward the plan and name it twice, at Strand 4 Standard 2 and in the Strand 4 Performance Objectives. This description rests on secondary summaries of R277-462; the rule text itself was not read in full.
The standard itself: Strands and Standards: College and Career Awareness, published by Utah State Board of Education, Career and Technical Education, grades 7-8. Two labelled levels and no combined numeral: the document prints STRAND 1 through STRAND 4 as headers and, inside each strand, numbers 'Standard 1' again from one. The document cites itself that way — 'Complete a career assessment… Please refer to Strand 1 Standard 1' — so the two-word form is Utah's own. Below the standards sit unlabelled bulleted objectives, quoted inside each row's text, and for three of the four strands a separately headed Performance Objectives block, treated here as its own rows because each is an individually stated deliverable under an explicit heading. Strand 2 has no Performance Objectives section.
Below is every one of its 22 criteria, what closes each, and what a student walks away with — 1 evidenced directly, 4 supported via lesson plan, 17 not claimed. The 1 directly-evidenced criterion and the 4 lesson-supported ones stay separate on purpose — merging them into one headline would flatter the platform at your expense.
Every criterion, what closes it, and what a student walks away with.

The two claimed counts stay separate on purpose — merging platform-evidenced and teacher-supported criteria into one number would flatter the platform at your expense.
Utah's own two-word citation style. The document prints STRAND 1-4 as headers and restarts 'Standard 1' inside each strand, so 'St1.Std3' is our compression of Utah's 'Strand 1 Standard 3' — the numbers are Utah's, the dot is ours. Rows ending .PO are the strand's Performance Objectives.
Standard 1: Explore the relationship of individual interests, skills, and aptitudes for future academic and career goals. • Complete an interest assessment to identify personal skill set (e.g. Keys to Success, YouScience) • Identify individual interests, skills, and aptitudes in career selection. • Compare the relationship between education and training for future career options. • Investigate how career choices relate to aspirations and future standard of living.
/assessments/riasec and /assessments/career-match for interests; /assessments/logical-reasoning and the four other reasoning tests for aptitude
Interests and aptitudes only. The standard's third leg — skills — is not covered: our Skills Audit is a 55-item inventory written for working adults (cloud platforms, CRM tools, version control), which a 7th-grader cannot answer meaningfully. The same interest result also carries St4.Std2 and St4.PO1 — one instrument, three rows.
Standard 2: Explore and participate in the process of preparing to apply for an entry-level job in relation to future academic and career goals — evaluate career availability via career-outlook information (www.bls.gov, jobs.utah.gov); compare traditional/nontraditional careers; explain digital-footprint impact; evaluate a resume; participate in a mock interview; research interview questions/attire/settings; explain post-interview steps; participate in Work-Based Learning experiences (guest speakers, field studies, job shadows, career fairs).
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 3: Explore the current Utah Career Clusters and Pathways using project-based learning and simulations and discuss academic content and skills required for specific career pathways. Investigate current Utah Career Clusters: Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering; Agriculture; Arts, Entertainment and Design; Business Management and Entrepreneurship; Construction; Digital Technology; Education; Energy and Natural Resources; Financial Services; Healthcare and Human Services; Hospitality, Events and Tourism; Marketing; Public Service and Safety; Supply Chain and Transportation.
/careers/search — the Advance CTE cluster facet, plus the Required Skills field on every career page
Utah's 14 clusters and the Advance CTE national framework behind our search facet correspond one-to-one, with three Utah renamings (Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering; Business Management and Entrepreneurship; Marketing). The project-based learning and simulations the standard asks for are the teacher's half — we supply neither.
Standard 4: Identify the courses outlined on a career pathway and compare the requirements for a CTE pathway concentrator and a CTE pathway completer and identify pathways available to students.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 5: Define and identify postsecondary education and training opportunities through Utah technical colleges, community colleges, universities, and industries in addition to high school CTE offerings — identify postsecondary/industry credential types; investigate certification requirements for future career goals.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 1 Performance Objective: Students will participate in at least one project-based learning opportunity to explore current Utah Career Clusters.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 1 Performance Objective: Students will participate in at least one simulation opportunity to explore current Utah Career Clusters.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 1 Performance Objective: Students will participate in at least two Work-Based Learning opportunities (guest speakers, job shadows, career fairs, field studies) and provide an artifact for each experience.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 1: Reflect how developing durable skills impacts academic and career success — identify benefits of strong durable skills; explain negative consequences of underdeveloped durable skills.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 2: Identify, develop, and demonstrate personal characteristics that promote responsibility, dependability, productivity, high-quality work, and self-initiative — demonstrate regular/on-time attendance, meet deadlines, exhibit self-motivation, show respect, be responsible, demonstrate strong work ethic.
/assessments/work-ethics result page
Work Ethics was written as a hiring instrument and its items are worded for employment — colleagues, routine meetings, shipping work. They re-read tolerably in a school frame, but they were not written for 13-year-olds. And 'demonstrate' — attendance, deadlines — is observed behaviour a teacher records, not a score.
Standard 3: Explore different methods of communication — verbal, nonverbal, visual, listening; compare personal/professional communication; evaluate technology's impact; practice technical reading and writing.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 4: Apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques — understand/research/resolve/evaluate/reflect on a problem; compare problem-solving techniques (engineering design process, decision matrix, DMAIC, etc.).
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 5: Identify and demonstrate effective collaboration and teamwork skills — participate in team roles; explain benefits/drawbacks of teamwork; demonstrate collaboration skills (brainstorming, listening, constructive feedback).
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 1: Students will identify the Utah approved CTSOs — DECA, Educators Rising, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, TSA.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 2: Students will identify the benefits of CTSO membership for progression in a future career pathway — identify which CTSO aligns to each Utah Career Pathway; identify benefits (academic motivation, college opportunities/scholarships, community service, leadership development, career networking, resume enhancement, travel).
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 3 Performance Objective: Students will participate in at least one simulated CTSO competitive event.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 3 Performance Objective: Students will reflect on the process, experience, and future impacts of participating in a CTSO.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 1: Students will identify a variety of positive stress management strategies — identify stress triggers; demonstrate stress management strategies in a variety of situations.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Standard 2: Students will strengthen an individual Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR) connected to academic and career interests — complete a career assessment to identify potential career options related to interest assessment results (e.g. Keys to Success, YouScience; 'Please refer to Strand 1 Standard 1'); create a rigorous program of study; evaluate the PCCR against personal skill set; explore postsecondary admissions processes.
/assessments/riasec or /assessments/career-match result page
Utah wrote this hook, not us: the standard's own text contains a 'complete a career assessment' bullet and points back to Strand 1 Standard 1. Everything downstream is absent — no PCCR document, no program of study, no admissions data. Shares its interest result with St1.Std1 and St4.PO1.
Standard 3: Students will explore various financial opportunities and risks associated with future academic and career goals — savings, debt, tuition, financial aid, scholarships, grants, student loans, work study; apply for FAFSA and scholarships; discuss long-term impact of student loan debt.
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Strand 4 Performance Objective: Students will begin to create a portfolio that includes — a career assessment.
/assessments/riasec, /assessments/career-match or /assessments/onet-interest-profiler result page
A completed, scored career-interest assessment result the student can point a counselor at
Scoped to the one 'a career assessment' bullet. The objective's own verb is 'create a portfolio' and there is no portfolio surface in the product, so we supply a single item for a container the school owns. There is also no student-facing export of the result.
Strand 4 Performance Objective: Students will begin to create a portfolio that includes — insights and reflections (positive and negative) related to the individual process of middle/junior high school, high school, postsecondary, and career preparation aligned to individual Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR).
No JobCannon surface addresses this criterion. We are not naming a workaround for it.
Three states, kept honest and kept separate.
Grouped by the criteria each one actually closes — read from the rows, not chosen for the page.
Two district contracts as published in board papers — one covering a single school year, one a five-year agreement — beside our per-student rate for one academic year
This is Utah's page in a set of state career-standards crosswalks built the same way — every criterion of a state's own document, matched one at a time, with what we do not claim listed as plainly as what we do. The most detailed of them is Arizona's grades 6-8 eCTE crosswalk, which carries a per-row evidence trail and four documented revision passes. The others: Texas, California, Illinois and Colorado.
A career-standards document is not the same thing as a plan-completion mandate — for whether Utah compels an individual student plan, and under which statute, see our career and education plan mandate directory. For the wider grades 6-8 deployment this crosswalk sits inside, see JobCannon for Middle Schools, or career assessments for school districts for a multi-school rollout. Both are part of the JobCannon for Business hub.
Scale is $199/mo and covers 200 people per billing period — the same unit as any school or district deployment. Where the crosswalk above is the evidentiary piece a procurement review needs, the Education Licence below prices your whole grade band per student for the year, assessments uncapped.

One rate per enrolled student for the academic year, sized for Utah district or school-level rollouts. Assessments uncapped, career and skills corpus included — multiply your own enrolment by the band and that is the price, before you talk to us.
$3.00 down to $2.00 per student, per year — assessments uncapped
Per head this is more than our monthly hiring plans, and deliberately so — it is a different licence, not a bigger size of the same one. Those plans meter individual candidates for hiring and coaching. This covers your enrolled roll for the academic year with assessments uncapped, retakes included, the career and skills corpus licensed with it and the cohort dashboard in the price. Which one is yours is decided by use, not by whichever number is smaller.
A large school, multi-school district or trust
A university, college or college group
A statewide or national programme
£350 per school, per year — a flat whole-school licence rather than a per-student rate, because that is the unit UK schools budget in. Same uncapped assessments and same corpus. Excludes VAT.
The ladder starts at 1,301 students. Below that there is no licence to quote: a roll that small is better served by a self-serve plan, and that is the one case where a plan covers a school’s own students — UK schools have the flat whole-school licence at any size. Bands are by enrolment, and the rate applies to your whole roll rather than to a seat count you have to predict. Invoiced annually against a purchase order; no per-assessment charge and nothing to top up mid-year. Assessing an institution's enrolled students is covered by the Education Licence, not by a hiring plan. What is in the corpus.

Strands and Standards: College and Career Awareness, published by Utah State Board of Education, Career and Technical Education, grades 7-8. 7-8 — the document header reads 'Intended Grade Level 7 or 8' (Core Code 39.01.00.00.001). Publisher's landing page: https://www.schools.utah.gov/cte/cca/ Two labelled levels and no combined numeral: the document prints STRAND 1 through STRAND 4 as headers and, inside each strand, numbers 'Standard 1' again from one.
It means the platform itself produces the artefact the criterion asks for, with nothing a teacher has to add. 1 criterion of the 22 are closed this way: St4.PO1. Each of those rows names the surface and the artefact, and several carry a coverage caveat — how many careers actually hold the field being claimed — because a reviewer will check.
It means the platform supplies the data or the assessment result and a teacher runs the classroom half — it is weaker, and it is labelled separately for that reason. 4 criteria are closed this way: St1.Std1, St1.Std3, St2.Std2 and St4.Std2. A plan a system wrote for the student would not satisfy the standard, and claiming it would not be worth much either.
Because the 1 and the 4 are different kinds of evidence — one is work the software does on its own, the other is work a teacher does with something the software supplies — and merging them into one headline number would flatter the platform at your expense. Every row states which of the two it is, and the counts are shown as separate pills rather than added together.
We make no claim on them. No JobCannon surface — assessment, career-page field or glossary entry — addresses them, and they are listed exactly as plainly as the 5 we do claim: same row format, same visual weight, a stated "not claimed" rather than an absence.
Cover page: 'Updated: June: 2025'; every content page repeats 'REVISED: JUNE 2025.' No older or conflicting version surfaced. The document itself is linked at the top of the table, so you can check any row against the source rather than take our word for it.
